Obituary Florence Wilda Brewster, the daughter of the late Edgar Aaron Scurlock and Alberta Jackson-Scurlock was born in Amityville, NY on December 21, 1917 and departed this life on Friday, March 12, 2010 in Winthrop Hospital, in Mineola, NY after a brief illness. Wilda, as she was affectionately known by family and friends, attended Amityville Public Schools and after graduating High School went on to Secretarial school. In 1940 she married her high school sweetheart the late Willis Hodges "Bill" Brewster and upon the death of his mother helped to raise his younger brothers Paul, Harry and cousin Annabell, along with their own five children; Phyllis who preceded her in death, Sandra, Hodgie, Kathleen and Hildie, on Brewster Lane in Amityville. Wilda was a homemaker for most of her life often caring for her two nieces Valerie and Ellen, and cousin Carol-Ann. During the 1960's Wilda worked at Fairchild-Republic before retiring in 1975. "Mama" as she was known to her Children, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren loved her hometown, and would often tell her grandchildren about growing up there in the "old days" when she would take shopping trips to Amityville Village on Friday nights to shop in the Five and Dime, Lang's Shoe Store and Christopher's stationary. In the 1980's Wilda moved to her youngest daughter's house in Queens were she helped to care for her granddaughters and most recently resided at Town House Extended Care in Hempstead where she celebrated her 90th birthday with family and friends. Wilda leaves to mourn, her children; Sandra Walker, Willis Hodges Brewster Jr., Kathleen King, Wilda-Jean and Son-In law Ronald Gardner, Grandchildren; Jeffrey Walker, Carlton Walker, Cassandra Walker, Aaron King and his wife Tori, Anthony King and his wife Ventia, Andrew King, David King, Brooke Williams, Rodiah and husband Lesly Dorcely, and Jennifer Gardner, Great-Grandchildren; Jeffrey Walker Jr., Anthony King Jr., Aren King, Christine King, Elijah King, Omari King, Khalil King, Poetry King and Kameron King, Brother- in-law; Paul Brewster, Sister-in-Law; Helen Jeffers, Nephew; Kenneth Brewster, Nieces; Valerie Miller and Ellen Campbell, Cousins; Margie Johnson and Carol Meadows, and a host of other family members and friends.
