Obituary of Christina V. Alves

Alves-Christina, born in Amityville, also a resident of Merrick, NY died on April 10, in Fort Myers, FL. Beloved wife of the late John R. Alves. Loving mother of Linda Nuccio, Judy Alves, Steven Alves, Mark Alves, John Alves. Cherished grandmother of Jennifer, Matt, Judith, Dan, Emily, Beth, Maisie, Kameron, and great-grandmother of Althea, Nathan, Nico, and Lucas. Dearest sister of Florence Palazzo, Cecilia Lopes, and the late Josephine Heller, Mary Abbate, and Lorenzo Abbate. She devoted her life to the care of others and was always pleasant, amusing, patient, and grateful for the care and attention she received throughout her illnesses. As a professed Franciscan, she ministered to the sick, shut-ins, homeless, tutored illiterate adults and under privileged boys, served in soup kitchens, and always, always took care of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. As the family joke goes: she generally made it tough for the rest of us to get into heaven. There are tears because we will miss her dearly, but no grief, she had a beautiful death after a life well lived.Friends may visit Tuesday, April 22, 2014 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at Powell Funeral Home, Amityville, NY. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 23 at 9:30 at St. Martins of Tours Church, Amityville, NY.
