Obituary of Joseph P. Barbato

Joseph Barbato (Joe) was born on January 27, 1953 in Brooklyn, NY to John and Maureen Barbato (O’Neill).  The family moved to Amityville, NY in 1962 where Joe graduated high school in 1970 and enlisted in the US Navy from 1971 - 1975.  He was assigned to the USS Scamp Submarine stationed in Pearl Harbor as a communications and intelligence specialist.

Joe worked in logistics and retired from Seviroli Foods, Garden City, NY in 2019 when he and his wife Louise moved to Pittsburgh, PA and Wilmington, NC to enjoy the best of the seasons.

He enjoyed camping, his little red classic MG, cooking, 4 wheeling at the beach but most of all his family.  He is survived by his wife, Louise (Broschart), his sons, Joseph and Anthony and daughters, Katie Frampton and Jaclyn Castma.  His son, John predeceased him in 2012.

He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren whom he was the most proud of, and his siblings Robert, Maureen (Fulford) and John.

Joe’s life will be celebrated at a Mass of Christian burial at St. Martin of Tours Church in Amityville, NY on September 2, 2023 at 9:30 AM and interment with full military honors at St. Charles Cemetery, East Farmingdale ,NY.  Immediately following, the family welcomes any visitors to gather at the Ancient Order of Hibernian Hall at 85 Grand Avenue, Massapequa from noon to 4pm to celebrate his life together.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Joe’s name to the Lower Cape Fear Life Care Hospice where Joe was tenderly and lovingly cared for.
