Mr. Holdridge heard me singing and invited me to join A Capella choir. I was only in 9th grade and was supposed to be a sophomore to join. I was taught to sing operas in French and Italian and a song in Hebrew- Yim Loch. Mr. Holdridge was a phenomenal teacher! I feel sorry for those that never had the privilege of being his student. RIP

My condolences to the Holdridge family and Larry's countless friends. I have just learned of Larry's passing, and I am deeply saddened. In 1977, I was seventeen years old, and I learned about Larry's auctions through an elderly man (born in 1914) who wrote a letter of introduction for me to Larry asking him to include me in his annual auction lists. For over forty-five years I have purchased records from Larry and communicated with him via letters, telephone, Internet, and it was the best experience of my life. Larry was a complete gentleman with the highest level of integrity. Larry has set the standard by which all other record auctioneers are measured. To say that Larry was 100% honest is an understatement. On the rare occasion that there was an issue with a record, Larry would refund the money without any questions. I shall miss his annual auction list, but I shall miss the man even more especially since he was an important figure in my teenage and adult years. God bless you Larry and your entire family. Thank you for the many years of friendship, and endless knowledge. Mike Coronado (Morgan Hill, California)

You inspired so many young high school students to find the love of classical music and find their voice. It is truly a major loss for us all that you are no longer on this earth to influence others. Your showed us all what class and culture and passion for music really is. What a legacy you created. Truly an honor to have been your student. A memorial concert needs to be held in your name to celebrate the many many students you molded and changed their life path. Rest in peacesssssssssssssssss!

Please accept my deepest condolences for the loss of your beloved father and grandfather, Larry Holdridge. I wish you all grace and strength for the time ahead. Mr. Holdridge helped me discover my soprano voice and develop as a musician, and helped create in my heart and soul a love and joy in singing. He inspired me to go to his alma mater, Ithaca College, and continued to support me in my singing career over many years. I shall be eternally thankful and grateful to have had the privilege, like so many others, to know him and benefit from his musical gifts and generosity. May he rest in peace, and may God bless you all. With sympathy and warm regards, Nancy Loesch Rotzetter. BHS ‘82.

Being a part of Mr. Holdridge's a cappella choir was one of the most enjoyable, fulfilling and positive experiences of my high school years. His exuberance and commitment were infectious, and the sense of accomplishment we all got in those rehearsals and concerts was a rare gift. I hope he knew how much joy he gave us!

i was in his acapella choir. he heard me singing rock and roll during “Arts Day” at school, and asked me to sing the solo with the choir on a spiritual. in our first rehearsal, when i started singing in my choir voice, he stopped me, and said, “No, no—sing it like Long Tall Sally!” he was the best.

I had Miss Rice (Mrs. Holdridge) as my grade school music teacher. Then in high school Mr. Holdridge took over as choral director. I remember one song I think it was called TURTLE SOUP, where he had us stop the song at an odd place. It ate theaudience think there should be more..... but there wasn't. Very progressive thinking in the early 70's. Loved trying to catch him with his perfect pitch too. Would hit some random key on the piano.... h was always right.

Mr Holdridge enrolled me in a capella choir in 69 and I loved it through 1970 when I graduated He instilled a love of the opera in a few of us and arranged field trips to see Carmen which was a favorite , and others. He conducted classes the previous week before going see we had background on the story and songs sung. He gave me a solo to sing’When It Comes December’ at Christmastime that I still belt out in the shower till this day 51 years later He was a great teacher, a great guy, and a great human being. One of the few teachers to positively impact students lives. He broke his watch once pounding on the piano during rehearsal that even had his wife laughing. The world would be a better place with more like him.

I bought my share of records from Larry, many that I will treasure for the rest of my life. I wish I had met him in person. I remember how eager I was to pour over every new catalog looking for records to add to my collection and looking at the photos. Not infrequently, they were of musicians I was learning about for the first time. He was a scholar about music, especially opera. He was also attentive to my enquiries and seemed like a very kind person. My sincerest condolences to his family. The record collecting community has lost a great friend.
