Helen Vigilante, 93, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 3, 2020. She was the widow of Michael Vigilante. They shared 38 years of marriage together. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of Amena and Zahed Shamy and the sister to five siblings. She enjoyed sewing, a talent she picked up from her father. After high school, Helen attended a fashion institute for dress-making. She created her own work-from-home business called “By Helene” doing alterations. Helen and Mike were one of the original families in Massapequa Park, purchasing their forever home in 1953. Helen was not only a consummate homemaker, but also enjoyed working part-time for Park Village Realty. Helen was a devoted member of Our Lady of Lourdes church in Massapequa Park from its opening, including volunteer work with the Holy Name Society where she worked on maintaining the altar appearance. Helen will be remembered for loving her family above all, being a faithful Catholic, and a loyal Conservative political follower. She is survived by her children Janet, Michele, Paul (Kathy), Carol (Bill), and Mark, thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Helen was predeceased by her husband, parents and siblings.
