My Uncle Colice (Cal) Thomas Picard was named after his grandfather and uncle, and I in turn was named after him. He was a kind and generous man that never married or had children, but maintained close ties to his parents, brothers, sisters, extended family, and friends. He was raised in Oklahoma and New York/New Jersey. He joined the Air Force in the 1950s and served four years in Mississippi, Germany, and New York. He was proud of his military service and throughout his life attended reunions of the Air Force unit he served in. After the Air Force, he stayed in New York where his father and step mother lived. He worked a few different jobs until he settled on auto body repair as a career. He eventually started his own business, Coro Auto Body, and successfully ran it for many years. After selling his business, he took a job with Richmond Auto Body where he worked until his death. The owner and his co-workers at Richmond Auto Body treated him like family and they in turn were very dear to him. Uncle Colice was fully a Depression Era kid from Oklahoma City, but loved living on Long Island. He enjoyed the weather, had many wonderful friends, and belonged to and served in the Church of Christ community there. We always called him "Uncle C" and he was the uncle you wanted to be around. He was fun, generous, and had a great sense of humor. He went to great lengths to stay in touch with his nieces and nephews. Even though Oklahoma is a long way from New York, he visited often and came to many important events such as graduations and weddings. He was there for my college graduation and commissioning as an officer in the Army. I was stationed in Germany not far from where he served and got married while I was there. Because of the timing, my parents nor my wife's parents could attend, but Uncle C was there. Uncle C took great vacations and saw much of the U.S. and the world. Just late last year (2019), he took a three month trip visiting California, Hawaii, Singapore, the Philippines, Australia, and Japan. He went on this, and many other great trips, with his wonderful friend and partner, Fe Tan Torres. Uncle C and Fe were great friends and for over 35 years explored the world and helped each other. Given it's impact on the world, I don't think I can avoid mentioning COVID 19. We are not guaranteed another day or minute, but prior to him showing symptoms of this terrible affliction, Uncle C was still living independently, driving, working, and spending weekends with his friend Fe. We are sad at our loss of Cal, but know that Jesus Christ is his Lord and Savior and he now is spending eternity in heaven. Colice T. Picard lived a long, prosperous life. He made a positive impact on many people and will be fondly remembered by many people. Until we meet again, Uncle Colice, until we meet again.
