Obituary

Brian Scott, 65 of Copiague, Long Island. Brian is survived by his wife Maureen, his two daughters Shannon and Lindsay, his son in law Jimmy and his faithful dog Marley. Brian was born in Astoria, Queens to his father Edward Scott and his mother Marie Scott. He was the middle child to an older brother Chris and a younger sister Susan. The Scott’s moved out to Ronkonkoma in the early 60s which was very much farmland at the time. Brian grew up attending catholic school, St. Joseph’s Grade School and St. John the Baptist High School, where his daughters would later attend as well. Brian had many jobs over the years, working at several delis across Long Island, and he worked as a hockey announcer just before he had his two children. He learned the carpentry trade from a close friend and they continued their work together for years. Brian and Maureen moved their girls out to Copiague in 1998 where he would live out the rest of his life. In the early 2000s Brian was working his own small kitchen and bath design company. Due to his mother falling ill in 2006, he started at a local job as the Maintenance Manager at a senior living community in Copiague. Brian was the truest friend, father, husband, uncle and cousin that anyone could have had. He was honest and kind while still being strong and perserverant. He lit up a room, cracking a joke wherever he could and always leaving an impact on the people he was around. Brian had so many sides to his bright and contagious personality: coming up with a witty remark to almost anything, or baking the most perfect almond crescents at Christmas time, or dominating in trivia and jeopardy. His skills didn’t stop there. Walking around their home you’ll find many projects Brian did with his own two hands, he built their shed and their deck in the backyard, and remodeled their entire kitchen finding what he would say was the “Best countertop around”. He redid his daughters bedrooms to whatever crazy colors they wanted over the years. And he was even a skilled painter having literally found The Joy in Painting watching Bob Ross. Amongst many other ongoing projects, Brian was always looking for something to work on, always wanting a sunny day so he could work on his beloved garden that he and his wife, Maureen spent so many hours perfectly pruning. But on the rainy days, while still complaining he wishes he could be outside, he would always find the best classic movie on TCM while creating a throne in his lap for his devoted little Marley. His love for sports created so much joy over the years. Rooting on the Green Bay Packers since he was 9 and having witnessed the Ice Bowl. He followed the Pack through the good times and bad, and even molded his two daughters into his little Packer squad. He was even a Packer owner, along with his daughter Lindsay and Son in Law Jimmy. He also loved the Rangers and Yankees, having gone to a Ranger game a few days before he passed and saw one of the best game endings all season. He was anywhere you needed him to be, often rushing over to his girls in the event of a flat tire, lost key, backyard clean ups, or a much needed paint job. He was truly one of a kind and someone who made every single life that he touched, better. The pain of losing Brian will never go away, but the joy of having been blessed to know him will be carried for many lifetimes to come.
