Dad’s Obituary

The life and journey of John Morris began in Beaufort County, North Carolina on May 21st 1938 to Grover Morris and Annie (Foskey) Morris. John grew up in the Jim Crow south era and since he was the oldest he had to leave school at the age of 8 to help his father take care of his younger brothers and a sister which consisted of his brother George Lee Morris(deceased),his sister Thelma Ward(deceased),and his brother Nathan of Florida. John went without a formal education so that his younger siblings could get an education.

John married Ozedra(Hemby) Morris on April 14 1962 and made their home in Amityville NY.They  had 5 children which consisted of Clinton Morris,Jeanette Morris,Yvette Miller,Rena Crenshaw (deceased)and Shakena Morris.John worked various and sometimes multiple jobs to provide for his family. He was the definition of a Man’s Man. John worked for a total of 54 years before retiring in the year 2000 from the Village of Mineola Public Works. John went to work plenty of days when he was extremely sick and in all types of weather because he believed that men had to work hard to take care of their families.

John was known as a no nonsense man to some in his family and the sweetest kindest person on the earth outside of the family. He was extremely neat and he would always try to stay dressed especially on Sundays even if he wasn’t going anywhere. He loved his “Dungarees” with his ironed in creases.

John also took great pride in his cars. He didn’t believe in a dirty car and would be seen constantly shining his cars up.

John loved Westerns,The Price is Right, and Let’s Make a Deal.

John transitioned on March 2nd 2024 after a long hard fought battle with multiple illnesses. Even in his final days, hours, and minutes he held on even though he was extremely tired. Eventually he transitioned peacefully in no pain or distress.

John leaves to celebrate his life his wife Ozedra, his surviving children Clinton Morris,Jeanette Morris,Yvette Miller, and Shakena Morris.
