Giacomo LaGrassa 10/26/1932-08/21/2023

Giacomo “Jack” LaGrassa passed away on August 21 at the age of 90.

A lifelong Amityville resident, Jack was the father of seven dedicated children, grandfather of 12, and great grandfather to 16 (almost 17). He is predeceased by his ex-wife, Faith, and beloved brothers, Frank and William.

Jack was a magnetic entrepreneur, having owned several successful businesses. His professional pursuits spanned many industries, most notably wood working, home construction, and hospitality. Jack was known as the “Pig Man,” and spent years traveling across the state hosting pig roasts. Jack took pride in luring people in with food and keeping them captivated with his larger-than-life personality.

Jack dreamt of owning his own bar and restaurant and, after many years of negotiation with the Village of Amityville, opened Giacomo Jack’s Bar and Restaurant in 2000. Giacomo’s became a gathering place for lovers of live music and a good time. Jack was an ever-present staple, holding court with one of his loyal boarder collies at his side.

He was a divisive man who did not mince words. You could go from enemies to best friends over the course of several hours and many drinks. He was surrounded by loyal friends, frequently leading the pack to get one or all of them in some sort of trouble. He never backed down from a challenge, often doubling down and demanding that you put money on it. He loved spending time on the bay, a good game of dice, and Louis Prima.

Jack’s restaurant was filled with pictures and memorabilia from a rich life, well lived. He taught his children the value of both hard work and a good time. Jack is survived by his dedicated and loving children, Jack, Carole (Tom), Tom (Anita), James (Jennifer), Patricia (Dennis), Richard, Michael (Tina) as well as an army of grandchildren and great grandchildren, Jacqueline, Faith Mary, Danielle, John, Dennis, Nick, Michelle, Madison, Allie, James, Thomas, Julianne, Jayden, Jovanni, Noah, Mia, Sofia, Elijah, Jonah, Natalia, Stella, Dennis, Luca, Sean, Aki, Michael, Mya, Clara, and Baby LeDuc.
