Rest in peace, Brother George, and may God's love shine on you and enlighten you as you open the gate to His heavenly portal. I also pray that your family will be comforted as they grieve your loss.
But, who can forget your voice or the way the stories about your past came pouring out like milk and honey. For anyone searching for the truth about life on Long Island for Native and African American families, you were one of the elders we had to go to. Thank you for sharing your stories with us. Thank you for grounding us in our history.
I am eternally grateful for the time you took to talk with me about your life in Westbury and the struggles of the African American families who tried to establish a place there. One day soon, I hope to finish writing that book which will, in part, be dedicated to you. May God continue to bless your family for their kindness in allowing me the time to speak with you and share the beautiful memories.
Rest in Peace & My Sympathies to your Family and Friends who are grieving at this time.
Yours Sincerely,
Judith A. Burgess
