Heaven gained an extraordinary Angel. Tom was an exceptional boss and mentor. He made a tremendous impact on my life learning plenty along the way. One of many fondest memories is when he made Y2K extra special and fun for everyone. I always enjoyed our chats even after GreenPoint.
Tom, we have been blessed to know you. We may have lost you here on earth, but your spirit will live on.
My deepest condolences to Terry, Lisa, Robert and family

Though my interactions with Tom were only at a professional level, I knew that he was a good man and greatly respected and admired him. He was fair, gracious, and always conducted himself with poise no matter the situation. Years after I worked for him, I would find myself asking "What would Tom do" when I faced a difficult situation. So much so that several years back I wrote him because I thought he would appreciate knowing that his influence carried on. He responded with a kind letter and also enclosed a copy of his "Cardinale Rules" which should serve as everyone's guide as to how to conduct themselves.

Tom started out as a boss, but the relationship quickly evolved to friend, mentor, and ultimately family, as he was a father figure to me. I learned so many life-long lessons from Tom starting with our first conversation where he told me to “keep your shoes shined and don’t do anything wrong!” :). He was one of a kind, and a treasure to all that we’re lucky enough to get to know him. We will miss you Tom, but you’ll always be in our hearts and memories.

When I joined the Bank I knew from day one Tom was a very special person. He proved over and over what a caring person he was. As an Orthodox Jew he respected my religious beliefs. Every time we had a department party he would reach into his pocket take out money and tell me to go out and buy kosher food so that I am not left out and feel comfortable. God creates special people like Tom for a reason and all of us have been the beneficiary of his kindness and his wisdom. Tom will always be a one of a kind human being we can all emulate. May god watch over him and his family.
