Obituary of Rita Gellineau

Rita Vera Gellineau- November 3, 1932 – September 19, 2022

Rita Vera Gellineau, also known lovingly as Aunt Vera and Mama Rita went to be with the Lord on Monday September 19, 2022.  Rita was born on the Caribbean Island of Grenada in the parish of St Patrick, on November 3, 1932. She immigrated to the US in the early 70’s and lived in Amityville from 1974 to 2019.  She resided in Land O’ Lakes FL at the time of her passing.  The daughter of the late Joseph and Frances Nelson of Grenada, she is survived by 5 sisters Mary (Norma) Adkins, Winifred (Amen) Peters, Cecelia (Esmay) Oshikanlau, Sister Mary Frances Nelson and Rev. Ellen Nelson, and even more brothers and sisters.  

Rita married Sidney Cyril Gellineau on March 30, 1964, who preceded her in death March 12, 1997. She will be greatly missed by her children Aquinas Nelson and wife Dori, Yvonne Gellineau-Simon and husband Pastor Stanford Simon, Yvette Urf and husband Christian, Cyril Gellineau, Donna Gellineau-Matone, Leon Gellineau and Alvin Morgan; her 14 grandchildren Ashley, Thomas, Brittany, Sarah, Charles, Joshua, Jesse, James, Caleb, Liam, Leah, Hannah, Jacob and Daniel. Two great grandchildren Jayden and Benjamin; Many nieces and nephews.  Her friends and church family will miss her dearly.

The Family will receive friends from 6pm on Tuesday September 27, 2022, at Grace Reformed Baptist Church in Merrick, NY.
