Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

John Hearns “Jack” Bogan, a retired Dentist and lifelong resident of Amityville, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2022, of natural causes.

Jack was born on November 7, 1936, to Charles Bogan and Agnes Hearns Bogan Hooper, and was a graduate of St. Martin of Tours School, Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School, Villanova University and Seton Hall College of Medicine and Dentistry.  After completing Dental School, he served in the United States Army Dental Corps as a Captain and was primarily stationed in Stuttgart, Germany.

“Doc Bogan” was a member of the Amityville Rotary Club for over 50 years, where he was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow for his contributions to Rotary.  He also served as a Captain in the Amityville Auxiliary Police and was for many years a member of Unqua Corinthian Yacht Club.

Jack’s passion for most of his life was sailing, with some of his most cherished memories being of racing Narrasketucks and sailing his boat to Block Island, Mystic, CT and into New England.  In recent years, he became more active in target shooting with the Hole in the Wall Gang as part of the Single Action Shooting Society.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Niebaum Bogan; children Anne Martinez, John H. Bogan Jr., and Steven (Gina) Bogan; grandchildren Sarah, Andrew and Emily Martinez and Monica, Katherine, Jacqueline and Daniel Bogan; as well as his sister A. Jeanne Harvey.  He was pre-deceased by his brothers Charles “Chick” Bogan and James “Jim” Bogan.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Rotary Gift of Life Program (giftoflifeinternational.org), the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (T2T.org) or the Long Island Maritime Museum (limaritime.org).
