Obituary of Barbara W. Hyland

HYLAND - Barbara W. of Amityville, LI on February 23, 2021. Beloved wife of James G. Loving mother of Megan Hyland (Colin Quinn) and Chloe Hyland. Adored grandmother of Wells Quinn. Dear sister of Stephanie Black (the late Lawrence) and the late Kathleen Whiteway. Barbara is also survived by her many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. After interrupting her career in commercial insurance to concentrate on her home and family, Barbara embarked on an over 20 year vocation as an educator beginning at Grace Nursery School in Massapequa and then at SCOPE Education Services, dedicating herself to the early education of children in pre-K programs in various school districts. Barbara was devoted to her family and friends, tending in any way she could to their wants and needs, most especially as a mother to her running and lacrosse playing daughters and their teammates and friends, and most recently as Poppy to her newborn grandson, Wells. Reposing Sunday 2-4:30pm and 7-9:30pm at the Powell Funeral Home, Inc., 67 Broadway (Rt. 110), Amityville. Funeral Mass Monday 9:30am St. Martin of Tours RC Church, Amityville. Interment Grace Church Cemetery, Massapequa. The family has suggested memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, to the Welles Remy Crowther Trust at https://www.crowthertrust.org/ All CDC recommended guidelines will apply to everyone entering the building; face coverings must be worn at all times, social distancing throughout the premises, limited physical contact and interaction. Because of the limited capacity regulations (50% which equals 63 people at a time in the chapel/building at Powell Funeral Home, Inc.) as set by New York State, we ask that all visitors limit their time with the family so as to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to pay their respects. As people vacate the building, additional mourners will be permitted to enter.
