Burke- Mary Agnes Bennett of Copiague, NY on January 25, 2021, in her 99th year. Mary Burke was born and raised in Brooklyn NY and lived most of her life in Copiague NY in the house she built with her husband. She attended St. Joseph’s College earned her B.A in English, received her Master’s Degree from NYU and taught English for 36 years, 28 of those years at Copiague High School. She was a college athlete, master grammarian, gourmet cook, avid camper and traveled the world with her family and late husband. She is survived by her 5 children, 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Beloved wife of the late Dr. John M. Burke of St Francis College, Brooklyn NY. Loving mother of Mary Jo Burke Chiara, John Burke (Elizabeth), Dr. Marguerite Burke, Thomas Burke (Marie) and James Burke. Cherished grandmother of Margaret, Nicholas, John, Thomas and John. Caring great grandmother of William, Kieran, Megan, Jack, Ryan and Caroline. Devoted sister of Margaret Moran, Patricia Donovan and John Bennett. Reposing Friday 2-4:30 & 7-9:30 pm at Powell Funeral Home, 67 Broadway (110), Amityville, NY. Funeral Mass Saturday 9:30 am at St. Martin of Tours R.C. Church, Amityville, NY. Followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn. www.powellfh.com All CDC recommended guidelines will apply to everyone entering the building; face coverings must be worn at all times, social distancing throughout the premises, limited physical and interaction. Because of the limited capacity regulations (33% which equals 45 people at a time in the chapel at Powell Funeral Home, Inc.) as set by New York State, we ask that all visitors limit their time with the family so as to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to pay their respects. As people vacate the building, additional mourners will be permitted to enter. .
