Obituary of Joseph J. Danaher

Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joseph J. Danaher was born in Brooklyn to Irish parents. A graduate of Bishop Loughlin High School, at the outbreak of World War II, he joined the United States Coast Guard serving in the Mediterranean Region. After the war, Joe joined the New York City Fire Department, serving in many areas of the city and rising to the rank of lieutenant. Joe is lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews and remembered with great admiration and love by his surviving sisters, Nora, Patricia, Aileen and Sister Alice, OP. A longtime resident of Amityville and Copiague, Joe died on January 13. The wake will be Monday, January 18 at Powell Funeral Home, Amityville, from 3 to 8 p.m. The Mass will be at St. Martin of Tours, Amityville at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his memory to Sisters of St. Dominic, 555 Albany Avenue, Amityville, NY 11701. All CDC recommended guidelines will apply to everyone entering the building; face coverings must be worn at all times, social distancing throughout the premises, limited physical and interaction. Because of the limited capacity regulations (33% which equals 45 people at a time in the chapel at Powell Funeral Home, Inc.) as set by New York State, we ask that all visitors limit their time with the family so as to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to pay their respects. As people vacate the building, additional mourners will be permitted to enter.
