The Reverend Pasquale Vito Laghezza of Long Island City, NY died Thursday, February 27, 2020. A Catholic priest in the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Father Laghezza was also a military chaplain in the U.S. Air Force for over 23 years attaining the rank of Major. Having served in various stations overseas, Father Laghezza earned the Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Devices, Air Force Commendation Medal with 2 Devices, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 3 Devices, National Defense Service Medal with 1 device, Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon with 1 Device, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon with 1 Device, Air Force Longevity Award Ribbon with 4 Devices and the Air Force Training Ribbon. He is survived by his niece, Margaret Watkins and his nephew, Patrick Laghezza. His was predeceased by his brother Roger Laghezza. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 1, 2020 at the funeral home from 2-4:30 pm. A wake service will be conducted at 4:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Monsignor James Lisante and Father Michael Shanahan Monday, March 2, 2020 at 10:45 am in Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church, Massapequa Park. Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Middle Village.
