Mother Genevieve Getaw

Elder Mother Genevieve Getaw (Mother G.)  was born November 24, 1924 to the late Mr. & Mrs. Leola Reese.  She grew up in Huntington, West Virginia.  She was the second of three children born.  Mother Genevieve Getaw completed her education in the Huntington, West Virginia school system.  Upon graduating high school Mother Getaw attended catering school, which was one her proudest accomplishments.  She also worked various jobs including laundry presser and building super intendent.

Mother Getaw moved to Manhattan, New York, where she met the love of her life Bishop Elie Getaw in the early sixties.  After an extended courtship that was filled with much hardships, trials, and tribulations Bishop and Mother Getaw accepted the lord and savior Jesus Christ as their personal savior, under the late Pastor and Mother Freddie and Vivian Bell of Hightower Pentecostal Church.  Their union was official under the eyes of god on October 15, 1972.  After serving the lord for some time Mother Getaw attended the Manhattan Bible Institute.

Bishop and Mother Getaw relocated to Brooklyn, NY.  They begin to attend New Hope Pentecostal Church under the late Mother Catherine Gibson.  Mother Getaw was installed as First Lady when Bishop Getaw was installed as Pastor.

Mother Getaw lived her life for the lord.  She held many positions in the church such as usher, missionary, evangelist, elder, devotional leader, First Lady, and Mother of the church.  Mother Getaw touched many hearts by singing her favorite song “Got my eyes on the Lilly of the Valley”.  Through her ministry many souls were blessed and bought to the lord.  Many marriages were saved, and many stomachs were filled.  She loved to care for people.  Her house was always open to her spiritual family and those in need.  No one left hungry.

Though Mother Getaw took care of many souls these souls also included her beloved children Bucky who preceded her in death, Darryl and Steven Dancy.  In 1991 the lord blessed Mother Getaw with 5 beautiful children Kenneth, Kenya, Kinard, Kendale, and Kendra.

Mother Getaw leaves to mourn her beloved husband Bishop Elie Getaw.  Her children Kenneth Getaw, Kinard Getaw, Kendale Getaw, Kenya Marthone, and Kendra Getaw; Darryl and Steven Dancy.  Her son in law Samuel Marthone, her daughter in laws Melanie Barbie and Eva Dancy.  She also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, spiritual children, and her New Hope Pentecostal Church family. All of whom which will miss her dearly.
